Ok guys. Connection’s been anything else than stable the last days, so I couldn’t really write anything.
There’s lots of stuff to keep up with. oh maaan. Todays still not good, I hope by tomorrow they get the net fixed.

Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital – week 1 / part 2
So that were the diagnosis days.
Sadly I was not allowed to take pictures of breast examinations.
So you’ll just get a picture of the doctor I spent most of my time with.
The first surgery I witnessed here (and in my life) was the removal of a tumor from the throat of a 13years old boy.
I just came in and watched for 3 mins, when suddenly he woke up from his Narcosis before they were done.
He fell in shock and stopped breathing, so they had to get me out and do their shit.
Before everything was done he almost died three times.
Next day me and a young doctor were allowed to watch a major surgery.
There will be pictures,so the faint-hearted please don’t read further
That’s Dr. Rabin, he is awesome. Chatting over anything, assisting on a surgery, or riding on the back of his motorcycle through Nepali traffic awesome.

That’s the surgery we were watching:
Then Rabin let me assist on a minor surgery he performed.
For those concerned about the safety of the patient:
I followed all the rules of hygiene and I couldn’t do much wrong (I was the bloodstopper)
As I had to assist, I couldn’t take a picture, but that’s me afterwards:

Surgical department was great <3
feeling sick
Got a scratching throat a headache and light fever… not the perfect conditions for bloging. Tomorrows better I hope.
Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital – week 1 / part 1
So that’s the BCH, the place Amanda and I work.
It is indeed one of the most renowned hospitals in the whole of Nepal!
Which is kind of a two-sided sword, because on the one hand it’s normally not terribly boring, but on the other hand everything’s very strict.
So no excuses for being late, and most importantly, 6 days of work a week.
We’re not treated as visitors, but more as staff.
First week I’ve been working in the surgical department.
They have diagnostics, minor surgery, and major surgery days.
At first ones you’re constantly touching girls’ and women’s breasts to check for breast cancer. I actually got quite good at it (check-up-time girls! It’s free.).
The doctors always made a diagnosis themselves, without telling me, then let me do it and then confirmed my one (or not). So it shall be written in the books of history that the first disease I ever diagnosed was a “Lipoma”. And then there are like 5 other patients a day that have something else.

This guy’s Nepal’s first certified official surgeon and I was totally working with him!
He’s so endlessly awesome, nice and competent.
to be continued tomorrow…
Amanda
So here goes the next member of our current crew:
Amanda!
She’s from Denmark, also 23 years old and studies Biomedical laboratory science in Copenhagen.
Like me, she works at Bakthapur Cancer Hospital, what makes her insta-awesome.
After work there she also helps out at CBR.
She’s terribly kind but also straight up, proactive and opinionated.
According to Tom she’…. he’s a dickhead
And she teaches all the good Danish pick-up lines!
Sahra
Number three, god we’re making some serious progress here.
That’s Sahra, 23 years old, Somalian origin, lives in London, fluent in English and French.
As the shirt implicates, she just finished her physics degree.
She just explains literally EVERYTHING. That’s how she got her deserved nickname “Captain Obvious”. She’s also pretty good at self-excuses and pointless giggling,
Which I totally enjoy.. she’s a perfect victim for my humour so we always have a good laugh together.
Actually I’m really jealous of her for being so smart…
Sam
Number two in our Bakthapur-Crew Collection is Fireman Sam – cause he’s smart.
Sam’s 18 years, from Australia’s beautiful but boring capital Canberra.
He’s our stupid-shit, confused, creative, English-teaching, Nepali-Learning, insightful, philosophical, cultivator of revolutionary thoughts.
He’s been my room mate since I’m in Nepal, and he’s totally my Bro.
It’s just one week but we’ve already been through some serious shit together. <3
He also taught me some solid Australian, mates..
hard.
